Chrysopogon zizanioides (trước đây Vetiveria zizanoides) là cây cỏ nhiệt đới có rễ rất sâu, có thể đến 3-4m. Bản địa Ấn Độ và Đông Nam Á.
Sản xuất tinh dầu chủ yếu Haiti (lớn nhất thế giới), Indonesia (Java), Ấn Độ, Sri Lanka, Trung Quốc, Brazil.
Rễ thu hoạch sau 18-24 tháng trồng, phơi khô và chưng cất hơi 24-48 giờ. Quá trình dài cần thiết để chiết tất cả hợp chất nặng từ rễ.
Haitian vetiver được coi là chuẩn vàng, note ngọt, smoky, balsamic đậm. Indonesian vetiver (Java) khô hơn, smoky hơn. Indian khusimol cao hơn, note 'green' fresh hơn.
Tại Việt Nam, cỏ vetiver được trồng để chống xói mòn đất (cây có rễ giữ đất cực tốt). Sản xuất tinh dầu commercial chưa có ở quy mô lớn.

Chrysopogon zizanioides (previously Vetiveria zizanoides) is a tropical grass with very deep roots, up to 3-4m. Native to India and Southeast Asia.
Oil production: mainly Haiti (world's largest), Indonesia (Java), India, Sri Lanka, China, Brazil.
Roots are harvested after 18-24 months of growth, dried and steam-distilled for 24-48 hours. The long process is needed to extract all heavy compounds from the roots.
Haitian vetiver is the gold standard, sweet, smoky, deeply balsamic notes. Indonesian (Java) vetiver is drier and smokier. Indian has higher khusimol, fresher 'green' notes.
