Citrus hystrix is a tropical Southeast Asian citrus with small fruit and characteristically knobbly peel. The Vietnamese names 'chanh thái' or 'chanh sần' reflect its use in Thai and Indonesian cuisine.
The oil is steam-distilled from the peel in Madagascar, Réunion and some Southeast Asian countries.
