Osmanthus fragrans là cây hoa nhỏ bản địa Đông Á, Trung Quốc, Nhật Bản, Hàn Quốc. Hoa nhỏ màu vàng cam, mọc thành cụm. Mùi rất nồng, có thể cảm nhận từ xa.
Trong văn hóa Trung Quốc, osmanthus (桂花 quế hoa) là biểu tượng của mùa thu và sự may mắn. Hoa được dùng làm trà (quế hoa trà), rượu (quế hoa tửu), mứt, và bánh ngọt.
Tại Nhật Bản, osmanthus (キンモクセイ kinmokusei) là hoa mùa thu phổ biến, mùi đặc trưng. Tại Hàn Quốc, gọi là mokseo (목서).
