Zingiber officinale là cây thảo nhiều năm gốc Đông Nam Á, nay trồng toàn cầu. Thân rễ tươi là gia vị thiết yếu trong ẩm thực Á Đông.
Tinh dầu cất hơi từ thân rễ sấy khô (oil từ ginger tươi sẽ khác). Sản xuất chính tại Trung Quốc, Ấn Độ, Anh (từ ginger Nigeria), Jamaica.
CO2 extract cũng có sẵn, giữ được nhiều thành tố nhạy nhiệt hơn so với chưng cất.

Zingiber officinale is a perennial herb originating in Southeast Asia, now cultivated globally. The fresh rhizome is an essential spice in East Asian cuisine.
The oil is steam-distilled from dried rhizomes (oil from fresh ginger differs). Main production in China, India, England (from Nigerian ginger), Jamaica.
CO2 extracts are also available, preserving more heat-sensitive constituents than steam distillation.
