Hoa nhài tươi, trái cây chín, sáp, hơi động vật. Có nốt trà xanh và mật; phần indole rõ khi ngửi gần. Mềm, kín và ít khuếch tán hơn absolute.
Fresh jasmine, ripe fruit, wax, a faint animalic edge. Hints of green tea and honey; indole shows up close. Softer, closer and less diffusive than the absolute.
IFRA 51 có tiêu chuẩn hạn chế (công bố 2020) cho jasmine absolute grandiflorum và jasmine absolute sambac. Concrete là nguồn của absolute và chứa cùng các chất thơm, nên khi dùng trực tiếp cần đối chiếu với các tiêu chuẩn này.
Tại EU, chiết xuất hoa nhài (Jasmine oil/extract) nằm trong danh sách chất gây dị ứng phải ghi nhãn theo Quy định 2023/1545 khi vượt 0.001 phần trăm trong sản phẩm lưu trên da hoặc 0.01 phần trăm trong sản phẩm rửa trôi. Benzyl benzoate, benzyl alcohol, linalool và eugenol cũng là chất phải ghi nhãn; benzyl benzoate và benzyl alcohol chịu hạn chế IFRA (2020), eugenol chịu hạn chế IFRA (2023).

IFRA 51 has restriction standards (published 2020) for jasmine absolute grandiflorum and jasmine absolute sambac. Concrete is the source of the absolute and carries the same aromatics, so direct use should be checked against these standards.
In the EU, jasmine oil and extract are on the allergen list of Regulation 2023/1545, to be labelled above 0.001 percent in leave-on or 0.01 percent in rinse-off products. Benzyl benzoate, benzyl alcohol, linalool and eugenol are also labelled; benzyl benzoate and benzyl alcohol are IFRA-restricted (2020) and eugenol is IFRA-restricted (2023).

Hoa nhài không chịu được chưng cất hơi nước: nhiệt làm hỏng phần lớn chất thơm. Vì vậy hoa được chiết bằng dung môi. Hoa tươi được ngâm trong dung môi không phân cực như hexane; sau khi thu hồi dung môi còn lại concrete, một khối sáp màu vàng nâu hoặc cam. Absolute là phần tan trong cồn của concrete sau khi làm lạnh và lọc sáp.
Ai Cập là nguồn concrete Jasminum grandiflorum lớn nhất, với vùng trồng ở đồng bằng sông Nile. Ấn Độ sản xuất concrete từ cả J. grandiflorum và J. sambac, chủ yếu ở Tamil Nadu và Karnataka. Maroc cũng sản xuất; Grasse ngày nay chỉ còn sản lượng nhỏ.
Hoa nở vào ban đêm và được hái trước khi nắng lên, rồi đưa đi chiết trong ngày. Mỗi kilogram concrete cần một lượng hoa rất lớn, nên giá phụ thuộc mạnh vào chi phí nhân công hái hoa.
Nhiều nhà sản xuất tại Ai Cập và Ấn Độ bán concrete cho các nhà làm absolute ở châu Âu. Một phần concrete được dùng trực tiếp trong attar, nước hoa sáp và xà phòng, nơi sáp tự nhiên không gây trở ngại.
So với absolute, concrete mềm và kín hơn vì sáp giữ các chất thơm lại. Nó hầu như không tan hết trong cồn, nên ít dùng trong nước hoa cồn. Trong perfumery, concrete được đánh giá chủ yếu như nguồn của absolute và như nguyên liệu cho sản phẩm nền dầu, nền sáp.
Jasmine does not withstand steam distillation: heat damages most of its aromatics. The flowers are therefore solvent-extracted. Fresh flowers are soaked in a non-polar solvent such as hexane; after solvent recovery the concrete remains, a yellow-brown or orange wax. The absolute is the alcohol-soluble part of the concrete after chilling and filtering out the waxes.
Egypt is the largest source of Jasminum grandiflorum concrete, grown in the Nile Delta. India makes concrete from both J. grandiflorum and J. sambac, mainly in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Morocco also produces; Grasse now has only a small output.
The flowers open at night and are picked before the sun is high, then extracted the same day. Each kilogram of concrete needs a very large quantity of flowers, so price depends heavily on picking labour.
Many producers in Egypt and India sell concrete to European absolute makers. Some concrete is used directly in attars, solid perfumes and soap, where the natural waxes are not a problem.
Compared with the absolute, the concrete smells softer and closer because the waxes hold the aromatics back. It does not dissolve fully in alcohol, so it is seldom used in alcohol-based perfume. In perfumery it is valued mainly as the source of the absolute and for oil and wax based products.
