(Z)-Jasmone là cấu tử then chốt cho mùi nhài đặc trưng. Xuất hiện đáng kể trong absolute nhài và ginger lily.
Trên da. Bôi nguyên chất trên da thỏ gây kích ứng trung bình đến nặng. Patch test ở 8 phần trăm trên 25 tình nguyện viên không gây kích ứng cũng không gây mẫn cảm.
Đường uống và da. LD50 cấp tính qua đường uống trên chuột khoảng 5 g/kg. LD50 trên thỏ qua da vượt 5 g/kg.
Đột biến gen. Độc gen trong tế bào buồng trứng hamster Trung Quốc, thử nghiệm dương tính duy nhất.
Ung thư. (Z)-Jasmone ức chế tăng trưởng theo liều của hai dòng tế bào ung thư phổi người in vitro, kèm apoptosis. Cũng ức chế tăng trưởng tế bào ung thư tiền liệt tuyến PC-3. Jasmonates tác động trực tiếp và chọn lọc lên ty thể của tế bào ung thư, vượt qua các khối tiền ty thể của apoptosis.
(Z)-Jasmone is the key constituent for the defining jasmine aroma. It occurs substantially in jasmine absolute and ginger lily.
Skin. Applied undiluted to rabbit skin, it was moderately to severely irritating. An 8 percent patch test on 25 volunteers produced neither irritation nor sensitization.
Oral and dermal. Acute oral LD50 in rats is around 5 g/kg. Acute dermal LD50 in rabbits exceeds 5 g/kg.
Mutagenicity. Genotoxic in Chinese hamster ovary cells, the only positive test reported.
Cancer. (Z)-Jasmone dose-dependently inhibited growth of two human lung cancer cell lines in vitro, with apoptosis observed. It also inhibited the proliferation of human prostate PC-3 cancer cells. Jasmonates act directly and selectively on mitochondria derived from cancer cells, bypassing premitochondrial apoptotic blocks.

(Z)-Jasmone together with methyl jasmonate, indole, benzyl acetate and linalool forms the defining profile of jasmine oil. In perfumery, even in trace amounts, (Z)-jasmone is the indispensable note for natural jasmine character.
