Có thể là choleretic. Kích ứng niêm mạc rủi ro thấp.
Chống chỉ định toàn diện: rung thất, thiếu hụt G6PD. Không thoa lên mặt hoặc gần mặt trẻ sơ sinh và trẻ nhỏ.
Đường uống: không dùng nếu có ứ mật. Thận trọng trong GERD.
Thiếu hụt G6PD là rối loạn enzyme di truyền thường gặp ở người Trung Quốc, Tây Phi, Địa Trung Hải, Trung Đông. Người có thiếu hụt này thường được khuyên tránh thuốc sulfonamide, chloramphenicol, antimalarial, aspirin.
Đã có ca trẻ sơ sinh bị vàng da khi dùng băng vết rốn chứa menthol trên trẻ thiếu G6PD.
May be choleretic. Low risk of mucous membrane irritation.
Broad contraindications: cardiac fibrillation, G6PD deficiency. Do not apply to or near the face of infants or children.
Oral: contraindicated in cholestasis. Caution in GERD.
G6PD deficiency is an inheritable enzyme disorder common in people of Chinese, West African, Mediterranean or Middle Eastern origin. Those with it are usually advised to avoid sulfonamides, chloramphenicol, antimalarials, aspirin.
Cases of neonatal jaundice have been reported when menthol-containing umbilical stump dressings were used on G6PD-deficient infants.

Mentha arvensis là cây thảo nhiều năm vùng ôn đới Bắc bán cầu. Tinh dầu tự nhiên chứa 70 đến 90 phần trăm menthol, quá cao để dùng trực tiếp.
Quy trình thương mại: đông lạnh tinh dầu thô để kết tinh menthol, lọc ra khoảng 50 phần trăm menthol. Phần còn lại là 'dementholized cornmint', đây là dạng oil thương mại phổ biến.
Họ Lamiaceae. Cornmint oil đôi khi được dùng làm adulterant cho peppermint oil.
Mentha arvensis is a perennial herb of the Northern Hemisphere temperate zone. The natural oil contains 70 to 90 percent menthol, too high for direct use.
Commercial process: freeze the crude oil to crystallize menthol, filter out about 50 percent. The remaining oil is 'dementholized cornmint', the common commercial form.
Family Lamiaceae. Cornmint oil is sometimes used as an adulterant for peppermint oil.
