Hoa mềm, xanh nước, hơi phấn, có nét trà xanh và dưa. Đáy ngọt nhẹ, hơi da người. Ít hoa trắng và ít indole hơn hoa nhài.
Soft floral, watery green, slightly powdery, with green tea and melon facets. A lightly sweet, skin-like drydown. Less white-floral and far less indolic than jasmine.
Hoa sen absolute không có tiêu chuẩn riêng trong danh mục IFRA 51 và không có tên riêng trong danh sách chất gây dị ứng EU 2023/1545.
Thành phần các lô khác nhau nhiều. Nếu có linalool hoặc các chất dị ứng khác, cần tính theo ngưỡng ghi nhãn EU. Bảo quản chai tối, kín, mát.
Lotus absolute has no dedicated standard in the IFRA 51 index and is not named individually in the EU allergen list of Regulation 2023/1545.
Lots vary considerably. Where linalool or other allergens are present, EU labelling thresholds apply. Store dark, sealed and cool.

Nelumbo nucifera là cây thủy sinh mọc ở ao hồ nhiệt đới và cận nhiệt đới châu Á. Hoa nở vào buổi sáng, khép lại vào chiều, kéo dài vài ngày. Ở miền Bắc Việt Nam, mùa sen thường từ tháng 5 đến tháng 8.
Absolute được làm qua hai bước. Nguyên liệu được chiết bằng dung môi không phân cực như hexane, cho ra concrete chứa sáp. Concrete sau đó được rửa bằng ethanol, làm lạnh để kết tủa sáp, lọc và cất loại cồn. Phần còn lại là absolute.
Hoa sen absolute có sản lượng nhỏ, chủ yếu từ Ấn Độ. Lượng hoa cần cho mỗi kilogram absolute rất lớn, và hoa phải chiết khi còn tươi. Nhiều sản phẩm mang tên lotus trên thị trường thực ra là phối hương tổng hợp.
Mùi hoa sen tươi có nhiều hợp chất nhẹ, dễ mất trong chiết xuất. Nghiên cứu headspace trên hoa sen ghi nhận 1,4-dimethoxybenzene và các hydrocarbon mạch dài. Absolute giữ nét hoa nhưng khác với mùi hoa trên cây.
Ở Hà Nội, trà xanh được ướp bằng gạo sen, tức phần nhị hoa, lấy từ hoa sen Hồ Tây. Quy trình dùng nhiều nghìn bông cho mỗi kilogram trà. Đây là một cách giữ hương sen không qua dung môi, khác hẳn với absolute.
Trong perfumery, hoa sen absolute dùng cho nốt hoa nước, trà và các cấu trúc nhẹ. Nó hợp với trà, hoa nhài sambac, xạ hương và nốt xanh. Nguồn cung nhỏ và giá cao khiến nó chủ yếu xuất hiện trong perfumery tự nhiên và niche.
Không nên nhầm Nelumbo nucifera với các loài súng Nymphaea, như súng xanh Ai Cập, cũng hay được gọi là lotus trong tiếng Anh.
Nelumbo nucifera is an aquatic plant of tropical and subtropical Asian ponds and lakes. Flowers open in the morning and close in the afternoon over several days. In northern Vietnam the lotus season usually runs from May to August.
An absolute is made in two steps. The raw material is extracted with a non-polar solvent such as hexane to give a waxy concrete. The concrete is then washed with ethanol, chilled to precipitate waxes, filtered and freed of alcohol. What remains is the absolute.
Lotus absolute is made in small volumes, mainly in India. A very large mass of flowers is needed per kilogram, and flowers must be extracted fresh. Many products sold as lotus are synthetic accords.
Fresh lotus scent contains light compounds that are easily lost during extraction. Headspace studies of lotus flowers report 1,4-dimethoxybenzene and long-chain hydrocarbons. The absolute keeps a floral character but differs from the living flower.
In Hanoi, green tea is scented with lotus stamens (gạo sen) from West Lake lotus. The process uses thousands of flowers per kilogram of tea. It captures lotus scent without solvents, unlike an absolute.
In perfumery lotus absolute serves watery florals, tea accords and light structures. It pairs with tea, jasmine sambac, musks and green notes. Small supply and high price keep it mostly in natural and niche perfumery.
Nelumbo nucifera should not be confused with Nymphaea water lilies, such as the Egyptian blue lotus, also called lotus in English.
