Chống chỉ định toàn diện: trị liệu progesterone, mang thai, cho con bú, trẻ chưa dậy thì.
Có thể gây tác dụng phụ khó chịu ở một số phụ nữ.
Đường uống: thuốc chuyển hóa qua CYP2D6, liệu pháp thay thế estrogen, thuốc tránh thai.
Trong nghiên cứu lâm sàng, 23.2 phần trăm phụ nữ dùng tinh dầu chaste tree gặp tăng triệu chứng (suy giảm cảm xúc, chảy máu nhiều hơn, bốc hỏa). Phụ nữ dùng cùng với progesterone (kể cả kem) thường xuyên bị chảy máu giữa kỳ.
Chiết xuất chaste tree có hoạt tính dopaminergic, giảm estrogen huyết thanh và tăng progesterone. Hoạt tính này một phần có thể nằm trong tinh dầu.
Drug interactions. Reproductive hormone modulation. May contain methyleugenol.
Broad contraindications: progesterone therapy, pregnancy, breastfeeding, prepubertal children.
May cause unpleasant side effects in some women.
Oral: drugs metabolized by CYP2D6, estrogen replacement therapy, oral contraceptives.
In clinical research, 23.2 percent of women using chaste tree oil experienced symptom exacerbation (emotional decline, increased bleeding, hot flashes). Women using it concurrently with progesterone (including creams) consistently experienced breakthrough bleeding.
Chaste tree extract exhibits dopaminergic activity, lowering serum estrogen and raising progesterone. This activity may partly reside in the essential oil.

Vitex agnus castus là cây bụi nhỏ vùng Địa Trung Hải. Hai loại tinh dầu sản xuất: từ lá và từ hạt, mỗi loại có chemistry khác biệt.
Nguồn thương mại chính tại Croatia. Cũng sản xuất tại Thổ Nhĩ Kỳ.
Họ Verbenaceae (chi này trước đây thuộc Verbenaceae, nay được chuyển sang Lamiaceae trong một số phân loại). Tinh dầu non-commercial Ý và Síp có chứa methyleugenol, oil thương mại Croatia thì không.
Có vài biến thể Vitex negundo (chaste tree Trung Quốc) trồng ở Trung Quốc cho tinh dầu, không có chất độc đáng kể, thành tố chính thường là β-caryophyllene.
Vitex agnus castus is a small Mediterranean shrub. Two oils are produced: from leaves and from seeds, each with distinct chemistry.
Main commercial source is Croatia. Also produced in Turkey.
Family Verbenaceae (genus formerly Verbenaceae, now reclassified to Lamiaceae in some treatments). Non-commercial Italian and Cypriot oils contain methyleugenol; commercial Croatian oil does not.
Several varieties of Vitex negundo (Chinese chaste tree) grown in China yield oils; none toxicologically significant, with β-caryophyllene typically the major constituent.
