Amyris balsamifera là cây thuộc họ Rutaceae (họ cam quýt), không phải Santalaceae (họ sandalwood thật).
Cây sinh trưởng vùng Caribbean và Trung Mỹ. Tinh dầu chiết từ gỗ già chứa nhiều nhựa thơm.
Loài này nằm trong danh sách nguy cấp tại bang Florida, Mỹ. Sản xuất chính tại Haiti, một ít từ Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Venezuela.
Amyris balsamifera belongs to the Rutaceae family (citrus family), not Santalaceae (true sandalwood family).
The tree grows in the Caribbean and Central America. Oil is extracted from aged, resinous heartwood.
The species is listed as endangered by the state of Florida, USA. Mainly produced in Haiti, with some production in the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Venezuela.
