Bulnesia sarmientoi là cây thân gỗ lớn vùng Chaco của Nam Mỹ, Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia. Gỗ rất cứng và nặng, không nổi trên nước.
Tinh dầu cất hơi từ gỗ. Sản xuất tại Paraguay và Argentina.
Họ Zygophyllaceae. Khác hẳn với guaiac (Guaiacum officinale) thuộc cùng họ nhưng chi khác, cả hai đều cho gỗ tên 'lignum vitae'.
Cây Bulnesia sarmientoi nằm trong CITES Phụ lục II (kiểm soát thương mại). Sourcing cần giấy phép.
Bulnesia sarmientoi is a large tree of the Chaco region of South America, Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia. The wood is extremely hard and heavy, sinking in water.
The oil is steam-distilled from the wood. Produced in Paraguay and Argentina.
Family Zygophyllaceae. Distinct from guaiac (Guaiacum officinale) in the same family but different genus, both yield wood called 'lignum vitae'.
