Có khả năng gây ung thư do hàm lượng safrole cao (50 – 60 phần trăm).

Chống chỉ định toàn diện: không nên dùng cả trong và ngoài.

Liều gây chết tối thiểu đường uống của safrole ở thỏ là 1.0 g trên kg.

IFRA và EU khuyến nghị nồng độ tối đa 0.01 phần trăm safrole từ tinh dầu chứa safrole trong mỹ phẩm.
