Opoponax có tiêu chuẩn IFRA riêng (Opoponax, sửa đổi lần thứ 49, 2020, giữ nguyên ở sửa đổi 51) thuộc loại hạn chế và đặc tính kỹ thuật. Tiêu chuẩn áp dụng cho chiết xuất từ gôm bằng dung môi hoặc chưng cất và đặt mức tối đa theo từng nhóm sản phẩm do nguy cơ nhạy ứng da.
Ủy ban khoa học EU (SCCP) đã có ý kiến về chiết xuất gôm Commiphora erythraea glabrescens. Bảo quản chai tối, kín, mát.
Opoponax has its own IFRA Standard (Opoponax, 49th Amendment, 2020, unchanged in the 51st) under restriction and specification. It covers gum extracts obtained by solvent extraction or distillation and sets maximum levels per product category because of skin sensitisation.
The EU scientific committee (SCCP) issued an opinion on Commiphora erythraea glabrescens gum extracts. Store dark, sealed and cool.

Tên opopanax trong thương mại hương liệu dùng cho gôm nhựa Commiphora guidottii từ Somalia và Ethiopia. Tên này dễ gây nhầm với chi thực vật Opopanax thuộc họ Hoa tán, từng là nguồn nhựa khác thời cổ đại. Trong perfumery hiện đại, opopanax gần như luôn là Commiphora.
Resinoid là chiết xuất bằng dung môi từ nhựa khô hoặc gôm nhựa. Sau khi loại dung môi, sản phẩm còn lại gồm cả phần bay hơi và phần nhựa không bay hơi. Vì vậy resinoid đặc, sẫm màu, bay hơi chậm và hoạt động như chất định hương.
Khác với mộc dược, opopanax giàu bisabolene và santalene, nên mùi ngọt và ít đắng hơn. Nhờ vậy nó hợp với vanilla, tonka và labdanum trong các cấu trúc amber.
Trong perfumery, opopanax resinoid là nguyên liệu nền của nhiều nước hoa amber và oriental. Lượng dùng phải nằm trong giới hạn của tiêu chuẩn IFRA Opoponax cho từng nhóm sản phẩm; với nước hoa (nhóm 4) giới hạn là 0.43 phần trăm. Nhà cung cấp thường nêu mức tuân thủ trong chứng nhận IFRA.

In fragrance trade opopanax means the gum resin of Commiphora guidottii from Somalia and Ethiopia. The name is easily confused with the umbellifer genus Opopanax, a different ancient resin source. In modern perfumery opopanax is almost always Commiphora.
A resinoid is a solvent extract of a dried resin or gum resin. After solvent removal it keeps both the volatile fraction and the non-volatile resin. It is therefore thick, dark, slow to evaporate and works as a fixative.
Unlike myrrh, opopanax is rich in bisabolenes and santalene, so it smells sweeter and less bitter. That suits it to vanilla, tonka and labdanum in amber structures.
In perfumery opopanax resinoid is a base material of many amber and oriental fragrances. Dosage must stay within the IFRA Opoponax Standard for each product category; for fine fragrance (Category 4) the limit is 0.43 percent. Suppliers usually state compliance levels in their IFRA certificate.
Supply relies on wild harvest in dry regions, often through chains of traders. Traceability and consistent quality are shared challenges for Horn of Africa resins.
Opopanax resinoid is often sold pre-diluted in a solvent such as dipropylene glycol or benzyl benzoate for easier handling. When calculating IFRA limits, the dilution must be known to work back to the actual opopanax content.
