(Z)-Anethole là đồng phân thiểu số của anethole. Hợp chất chỉ xuất hiện ở hàm lượng vết trong tinh dầu hồi và thì là, dưới một phần trăm.
Đường tiêm. LD50 cấp tính qua tiêm phúc mạc là 135 mg/kg trên chuột nhắt và 93 mg/kg trên chuột cống. Đồng phân (Z) độc hơn đáng kể so với đồng phân (E).
Ung thư. Bốn liều tiêm phúc mạc hỗn hợp 90 phần trăm (Z)-anethole và 10 phần trăm (E)-anethole trước khi cai sữa không gây u gan ở chuột sau 18 tháng. (Z)-Anethole không được xếp là chất gây ung thư.
Do hàm lượng rất thấp trong tinh dầu, hợp chất không đặt ra quan ngại an toàn cụ thể trong sử dụng thực tế.
(Z)-Anethole is the minor isomer of anethole. It occurs only in trace amounts in anise and fennel oils, generally below one percent.
Injection. Acute intraperitoneal LD50 is 135 mg/kg in mice and 93 mg/kg in rats. The (Z)-isomer is markedly more toxic than the (E)-isomer.
Carcinogenicity. Four intraperitoneal injections of a 90 percent (Z)/10 percent (E)-anethole mixture given prior to weaning did not produce hepatomas in mice at 18 months. (Z)-Anethole is not classified as carcinogenic.
Because concentrations in essential oils are very low, the compound does not raise practical safety concerns at typical use levels.

(Z)-Anethole có thể hình thành khi (E)-anethole tiếp xúc lâu với ánh sáng hoặc không khí. Hàm lượng tăng dần theo tuổi của tinh dầu.
(Z)-Anethole may form when (E)-anethole is exposed to light or air over time. Its level tends to rise as essential oils age.
