Agarwood lấy từ gỗ cây Aquilaria malaccensis bị nhiễm nấm. Cây không nhiễm nấm cho gỗ trắng, không có mùi đặc trưng.
Tinh dầu chủ yếu sản xuất tại Việt Nam, Lào, Campuchia, Bangladesh, Ấn Độ. Còn được chiết từ Aquilaria sinensis.
Aquilaria malaccensis nằm trong CITES Phụ lục II — loài cần kiểm soát chặt việc thương mại để tránh tuyệt chủng.
Agarwood comes from fungus-infected wood of Aquilaria malaccensis. Uninfected trees produce pale wood with no characteristic aroma.
Oil is produced mainly in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Bangladesh, India. Also extracted from Aquilaria sinensis.
Aquilaria malaccensis is listed under CITES Appendix II — species requiring strict trade control to prevent extinction.
Agarwood là tinh dầu đắt nhất trên thị trường — gấp 10-15 lần so với jasmine absolute.
CO₂ extract cũng được sản xuất, có profile mùi khác so với chưng cất hơi.
Agarwood is one of the most expensive aromatic raw materials — ten to fifteen times the cost of jasmine absolute.
CO₂ extracts are also produced, with a different scent profile from steam-distilled oil.
