Sclareolide là lactone thu được khi oxy hoá sclareol từ cây xô thơm. Trong quy trình kinh điển sản xuất ambroxide, sclareolide là chất trung gian: được khử thành diol rồi đóng vòng thành ambroxide.
Sclareolide is the lactone obtained by oxidising sclareol from clary sage. In the classic ambroxide process it is the intermediate: it is reduced to a diol, which is then cyclised to ambroxide.
Sclareolide dùng làm chất cố định hổ phách và trong hương liệu thuốc lá. Vai trò lớn nhất là nguyên liệu trung gian trong sản xuất ambroxide.
Sclareolide is used as an amber fixative and in tobacco flavors. Its main role is as an intermediate in ambroxide production.
