beta-damascenone được Demole và cộng sự tại Firmenich xác định trong tinh dầu hồng Bulgaria, công bố năm 1970. Dù chỉ chiếm lượng rất nhỏ, chất này đóng góp lớn vào mùi hồng. Nó hình thành từ sự phân huỷ carotenoid và có trong rượu vang, bourbon, táo và thuốc lá.
beta-damascenone was identified in Bulgarian rose oil by Demole and colleagues at Firmenich, published in 1970. Though present in tiny amounts, it contributes strongly to rose odour. It forms from carotenoid breakdown and occurs in wine, bourbon, apple and tobacco.
