4-Ethylphenol is best known as the horse stable odorant in wines affected by Brettanomyces yeast. It belongs to the phenols that give leathery and animal tones.

Trong nước hoa, chất này dùng ở vết cho accord da thuộc, castoreum và yên ngựa.

In fragrance it is used in traces for leather, castoreum and saddle accords.
