Musk ambrette do Albert Baur mô tả vào đầu thập niên 1890 và từng rất phổ biến trong nước hoa nam và sản phẩm cạo râu. Từ thập niên 1980, chất này bị liên hệ với phản ứng nhạy cảm ánh sáng trên da và với độc tính thần kinh trong thử nghiệm động vật.

IFRA ban hành tiêu chuẩn Cấm, công bố 2006 theo danh mục Sửa đổi 51. EU đưa musk ambrette vào Phụ lục II (chất cấm dùng trong mỹ phẩm).

Musk ambrette was described by Albert Baur in the early 1890s and was once very popular in men's fragrance and shaving products. From the 1980s it was linked to photosensitivity reactions on skin and to neurotoxicity in animal tests.

IFRA issued a Prohibition Standard, dated 2006 in the 51st Amendment index. The EU lists musk ambrette in Annex II (substances prohibited in cosmetics).

Musk ambrette không còn được dùng. Hiệu ứng hạt ambrette nay được tạo bằng ambrettolide và các musk vòng lớn.

Musk ambrette is no longer used. The ambrette-seed effect is now built with ambrettolide and macrocyclic musks.
