Helvetolide là musk mạch vòng (alicyclic) đầu tiên được thương mại hoá, do Firmenich phát triển. Khác với musk vòng lớn hay musk đa vòng, phân tử có mạch hở gắn với một vòng cyclohexane nhỏ, cho thấy mùi xạ có thể đến từ những khung cấu trúc linh hoạt hơn.

Helvetolide was the first commercial alicyclic musk, developed by Firmenich. Unlike macrocyclic or polycyclic musks, it has an open chain attached to a small cyclohexane ring, showing that musk odor can come from more flexible scaffolds.

Helvetolide gives a clean, slightly fruity musk effect and is used in modern fine fragrance and personal care. It is often combined with macrocyclic musks for added brightness.
