p-Cresyl methyl ether is a key constituent of ylang-ylang and cananga. The compound is non-irritant and non-sensitizing but has notable acute oral toxicity.
Skin. A 2 percent patch test on 25 volunteers caused no irritation or sensitization.
Oral and dermal. Acute oral LD50 in rats is reported as 1.92 g/kg and 207 mg/kg in two different sources, suggesting moderate toxicity. Rabbit dermal LD50 exceeds 5 g/kg.
