Cyclopentadecanone là ketone vòng 15 cạnh không có nhóm methyl, tức muscone thiếu một methyl. Ružička tổng hợp chất này trong loạt nghiên cứu vòng lớn giữa thập niên 1920, khi hợp tác với công ty tiền thân của Firmenich tại Genève. Cyclopentadecanone is the 15-membered ring ketone without a methyl group, in effect muscone minus one methyl. Ružička made it during his macrocycle work in the mid 1920s, in collaboration with the Geneva company that later became Firmenich. It was among the first synthetic macrocyclic musks to be sold, under the name Exaltone.

Exaltone adds diffusion and tenacity to the base without pushing it toward an animal direction. It is often combined with macrolide musks for a clean, warm musk tone.
