Boesenbergia pandurata is a small herb of Southeast Asia. The rhizome divides into many small 'finger-like' projections, the source of the folk names 'finger root' and 'lesser ginger'.
An important spice in Thai cuisine (called krachai), Indonesian, Malaysian, particularly for fish curries and tom yum soup.
Family Zingiberaceae. Same family as ginger (Zingiber officinale), turmeric (Curcuma longa), galangal (Alpinia).
