Oxidation products of (+)-limonene and α-pinene may sensitize skin.
Store in dark, sealed, refrigerated container. Add an antioxidant.
Non-phototoxic.
Initial 20 percent test produced 2 of 25 sensitization reactions, but the sample had oxidized. A second test using nitrogen-protected, BHA-stabilized oil produced no sensitization. This underscores the importance of storage.

Abies sachalinensis is a silver fir of Sakhalin Island and Hokkaido (Japan). The name 'Japanese pine needle' can mislead, this is a fir (Abies), not a pine (Pinus).
The oil is steam-distilled from needles and twigs. Family Pinaceae.
