Coumarin up to 50 percent. Coumarin causes liver cancer in rats at high doses, FDA banned in food since 1954.

However dermal application of coumarin is not hazardous, pure coumarin is not a skin allergen.

In perfumery cosmetic, tonka absolute is usable. Low daily maximum oral dose recommended.

No data indicates dermal hazard in pregnancy at usual doses.

Dipteryx odorata is an Amazonian tree, Brazil, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname. Dried seeds develop white crystalline coumarin on the surface.

The name 'tonka bean' is common in classical French perfumery.

Family Fabaceae.

Vanilla-hay-tobacco-cinnamon aroma, a premium gourmand note. In modern perfumery (Le Labo, Maison Margiela, Jo Malone) tonka is a signature note.
