Floral Musky is subfamily B2 of the Floral family in the SFP table. Flowers remain the theme, but musk is not confined to the base; it spreads into the heart, making the flowers soft, blurred and close to the smell of skin.
The branch depends on synthetic musks. Once natural deer musk had nearly disappeared from perfumery, polycyclic, macrocyclic and linear musk molecules became the main source.
Two perfumes are often cited: The Body Shop's White Musk, launched in 1981, which made synthetic musk the theme of a mass-market scent; and Narciso Rodriguez For Her (2003), composed by Christine Nagel and Francis Kurkdjian, which set orange flower and osmanthus on a large musk core.
The flowers in B2 are usually orange flower, jasmine, rose and orris, sometimes osmanthus. The musks bring different shades: Galaxolide clean like laundry; ethylene brassylate sweet and powdery; Habanolide slightly metallic; ambrettolide and hexadecanolide warm and skin-like. Orris brings irones, a powdery note that pairs closely with musk.
Rules to note: rose, jasmine and ylang-ylang oils and extracts are named individually on the expanded allergen list of Regulation (EU) 2023/1545; new products placed on the EU market after 31 July 2026 must be labelled according to it. Hexamethylindanopyran (Galaxolide) and hexadecanolactone are also on that list. Nitro musks such as musk ambrette are prohibited in EU cosmetics.
The SFP website publishes only subfamily names; perfume lists per subfamily are in the printed Classification officielle des parfums. Perfumes named here are commonly cited examples, not official SFP placements.
B2 approaches A7 Musky Citrus when the fresh top is larger, and B7 Floral Woody when the woods increase.

Natural plant musks offer few options: ambrette seed (ambrettolide) and angelica root. Orris gives a powdery note close to musk; sandalwood gives soft creaminess.
The floral layer can use orange flower, osmanthus and rose in small amounts so the flowers stay blurred. The result is warmer and more vegetal than synthetic musk. Check IFRA limits and the EU allergen list for each material. This page gives no formula percentages.
