History

Habanolide is a 16-membered lactone with one trans double bond, developed by Firmenich. It belongs to the generation of macrolides that grew as the industry sought alternatives to nitro and polycyclic musks, which faced toxicity or environmental persistence concerns.

In perfumery

Habanolide gives a white, clean musk effect and is widely used in fine fragrance and body care. It is stable in many product bases and is also used in detergents and fabric softeners.
