Botanical source

Schinus terebinthifolius is a South American shrub, particularly from Brazil. Small pale pink fruits, not true pepper (not in family Piperaceae).

The commercial name 'pink peppercorn' is misleading, pink pepper is actually Schinus, not Piper.

Family Anacardiaceae, same family as cashew, mango, and poison ivy.

Notes

Citrus-spicy aroma, sweeter than black pepper. In modern perfumery, pink pepper is very popular for fresh-spicy notes.

In fragrance houses like Diptyque and Le Labo, pink pepper is a signature ingredient in many fragrances.
