Six essential oils for a home spa session without leaving the house. Peppermint and rosemary open wide awake, cool and green; lavender, bergamot and sweet orange join in to make the scent rounder and fresher, then ylang-ylang leaves a little sweet flower at the end. Good for self-care sessions that last a full hour. If you'd rather lean relaxing than alert, drop one drop of peppermint and add one drop of lavender.

On opening. Peppermint (cool, sharp and clean); rosemary (cool, green, herbal and invigorating); bergamot (light citrus with a floral edge, Earl Grey style); sweet orange (ripe, sweet, cheerful and round) rise first, clearest in the first 10–15 minutes.
As it settles. Lavender (floral-herbal, clean and soothing); ylang ylang (rich, creamy, tropical and sweetly floral) form the body of the scent and stay longest in the room.
What remains. With no woody or resin base note, this blend fades fairly quickly — switch it on again after 1–2 hours to keep the room scented.
Bergamot can make skin sensitive to sunlight when applied topically — avoid sun and tanning beds for 12 hours after applying.
Do not use for children under 6, during pregnancy, or if you have a health condition without asking a professional first. Never ingest essential oils; keep them out of reach of children and pets.
