Ferula

Oxidation products of α-pinene may sensitize skin. Store in dark, sealed, refrigerated container.

Contains no known carcinogens. α-Pinene is antimutagenic.

Likely not hazardous in pregnancy based on data for α-pinene, β-pinene and camphene.

Ferula jaeschkeana is a herb of the Himalayas and Central Asia. The thick dried rhizomes are steam-distilled, yielding an extremely α-pinene-rich oil.

Family Apiaceae. Same genus Ferula as asafoetida and galbanum, but F. jaeschkeana has markedly different chemistry, simple terpenes rather than sulfur compounds or coumarins.
