Juniperus ashei is a wild juniper of Texas, Oklahoma, Mexico and South America. Millions of acres of farmland have been invaded by this opportunistic species.
Trees and stumps discarded by ranchers during land clearing are used for oil extraction.
Family Cupressaceae. Same genus Juniperus as Virginian cedarwood (J. virginiana) and juniper berry.
May be adulterated with Chinese cedarwood oil.
