Botanical source

Chamaecyparis funebris is a tree of China and Southeast Asia, with characteristically drooping foliage. The folk names 'mourning cypress' and 'weeping cypress' reflect this form.

Produced in large quantities. Sometimes used as an adulterant for Virginian or Texan cedarwood oils.

Family Cupressaceae, unlike Atlas and Himalayan cedars (Pinaceae).
