The royal paperwork can wait till tomorrow. Lavender holds the lead, sweet orange and lemon scatter orange-gold light over the top, cedarwood supports the wood base, and fennel chips in a slightly sweet herbal note that's unusual but fun. The blend suits the bedroom after a day of nonstop decision-making. For a more familiar scent, you can leave out the fennel and add 1 drop of lavender.

On opening. Sweet orange (ripe, sweet, cheerful and round); lemon (fresh, bright and clean) rise first, clearest in the first 10–15 minutes.
As it settles. Lavender (floral-herbal, clean and soothing); fennel (sweet and herbal with a little anise) form the body of the scent and stay longest in the room.
What remains. Cedarwood (dry and warm, like a wooden chest and pencil shavings) sinks in and lingers after the diffuser is off.
Lemon can make skin sensitive to sunlight when applied topically — avoid sun and tanning beds for 12 hours after applying.
Do not use for children under 6, during pregnancy, or if you have a health condition without asking a professional first. Never ingest essential oils; keep them out of reach of children and pets.
