checking in with myself

3 oils · Citrus · Herbal · Woody · code BL-0845

Checking in with yourself, like knocking on an old friend's door to see how they're doing. Five drops of clary sage open with a warm, slightly sweet herbal note like tea, bergamot airs out the room, and cedarwood closes with steady wood. Lovely for evenings of journaling, sitting on the bed looking back over the week. Tip: start the diffuser about five minutes before you open your notebook so the scent has time to spread.

How it unfolds

On opening. Bergamot (light citrus with a floral edge, Earl Grey style) rises first, clearest in the first 10–15 minutes.

As it settles. Clary sage (sweet, herbal, slightly musky and unhurried) forms the body of the scent and stays longest in the room.

What remains. Cedarwood (dry and warm, like a wooden chest and pencil shavings) sinks in and lingers after the diffuser is off.

Method

Diffuser
Clary Sage 5 · Bergamot 3 · Cedarwood 2 drops in 200–300 ml of water. Run for 30–60 minutes, then take a break.

Clary Sage 2 · Bergamot 2 · Cedarwood 1 drops, then top up with a carrier oil (jojoba or sweet almond). Dab on wrists and the back of the neck.
50 ml room spray
Clary Sage 15 · Bergamot 9 · Cedarwood 6 drops + 1 teaspoon of food-grade alcohol, then top up with distilled water. Shake before spraying.

Safety

Photosensitizing

Bergamot can make skin sensitive to sunlight when applied topically — avoid sun and tanning beds for 12 hours after applying.

Do not use for children under 6, during pregnancy, or if you have a health condition without asking a professional first. Never ingest essential oils; keep them out of reach of children and pets.

FAQ

How do I use checking in with myself in a diffuser?
Add Clary Sage 5 · Bergamot 3 · Cedarwood 2 drops to 200–300 ml of water. In a room under 15 m², use 1–2 drops less; in a room over 25 m², add 1 more drop of the main oil.
What can I use instead of clary sage?
Swap clary sage for rosemary or eucalyptus — same herbal family. The blend will shift a little: rosemary is cool, green, herbal and invigorating.
When is the best time to use checking in with myself?
Use it while meditating, doing yoga, journaling, or simply sitting still for 10 minutes without your phone.
