Backhousia anisata is a tropical Australian tree, particularly from Queensland. The leaves have a characteristic anise aroma, used as an Australian native spice.

Small-scale production, mainly for the Australian market.

Family Myrtaceae.

Aromatically equivalent to anise (Pimpinella anisum) or star anise (Illicium verum), but from a completely different plant family.

Niche oil, used in gourmand perfumery and food flavoring.
