Cymbopogon martinii var. sofia is a variety of the same species that gives palmarosa oil (var. motia), but with markedly different chemistry, menthadienol-rich rather than geraniol-rich.
The oil is steam-distilled from the leaves. Produced in India.
Family Poaceae. Same family and genus as palmarosa, lemongrass, citronella, Java-type Cymbopogon.
Gingergrass oil has declined in soap perfumery use due to frequent adulteration.
