Eight drops of icy peppermint take charge, four drops of bergamot are elegant, two drops of spearmint are sweet and cool, and a single drop of ylang-ylang adds a floral accent. A truly ice-cold mood, great for summer middays, rooms without air conditioning, or after coming in from the sun. In a small room, cut the peppermint to 5 drops; with young kids at home, it's better to choose a gentler recipe.

On opening. Peppermint (cool, sharp and clean); bergamot (light citrus with a floral edge, Earl Grey style); spearmint (sweet and cool, softer than peppermint, with a hint of chewing gum) rise first, clearest in the first 10–15 minutes.
As it settles. Ylang ylang (rich, creamy, tropical and sweetly floral) forms the body of the scent and stays longest in the room.
What remains. With no woody or resin base note, this blend fades fairly quickly — switch it on again after 1–2 hours to keep the room scented.
Bergamot can make skin sensitive to sunlight when applied topically — avoid sun and tanning beds for 12 hours after applying.
Do not use for children under 6, during pregnancy, or if you have a health condition without asking a professional first. Never ingest essential oils; keep them out of reach of children and pets.
