Citronella and eucalyptus split the main role, bold grass blended with cool leaves; lavender softens and lemon adds a little brightness up top. A big-batch recipe to mix for the whole watering season. Dilute into a spray bottle and mist your hat, gloves and hems before heading out to the garden in the afternoon; use the rest in the porch diffuser, 5 drops at a time.

On opening. Citronella (strong, green and slightly lemony); eucalyptus (strong, cool and wide open); lemon (fresh, bright and clean) rise first, clearest in the first 10–15 minutes.
As it settles. Lavender (floral-herbal, clean and soothing) forms the body of the scent and stays longest in the room.
What remains. With no woody or resin base note, this blend fades fairly quickly — switch it on again after 1–2 hours to keep the room scented.
Lemon can make skin sensitive to sunlight when applied topically — avoid sun and tanning beds for 12 hours after applying.
Do not use for children under 6, during pregnancy, or if you have a health condition without asking a professional first. Never ingest essential oils; keep them out of reach of children and pets.
