Home after overtime and in urgent need of a revival. Six drops of star anise open sweet, spicy and warm, like a steaming pot of pho, five drops each of frankincense and lavender make a warm, soothing base, and cedarwood and sweet orange add dry wood and fresh sweetness. Premix all twenty-four drops and use five each evening. Lovely in the living room at night; star anise is bold, so cut it to four if you're new to it.

On opening. Sweet orange (ripe, sweet, cheerful and round) rises first, clearest in the first 10–15 minutes.
As it settles. Star anise (sweet and warm, reminiscent of pho broth and Tet sweets); lavender (floral-herbal, clean and soothing) form the body of the scent and stay longest in the room.
What remains. Frankincense (resinous with a light lemony note, deep and still); cedarwood (dry and warm, like a wooden chest and pencil shavings) sink in and linger after the diffuser is off.
Do not use for children under 6, during pregnancy, or if you have a health condition without asking a professional first. Never ingest essential oils; keep them out of reach of children and pets.
