Ceiling light off, a few candles lit, and the scent fills in the rest of the glow. Lavender and cedarwood form the backbone: clean purple flowers over warm wood; sweet orange adds a streak of golden citrus, and frankincense and ylang-ylang scatter a layer of resin and sweet flowers at the end. This is a big batch, enough for many evenings. Use about 6 drops each time, and keep the diffuser a little away from the candle flames.

On opening. Sweet orange (ripe, sweet, cheerful and round) rises first, clearest in the first 10–15 minutes.
As it settles. Lavender (floral-herbal, clean and soothing); ylang ylang (rich, creamy, tropical and sweetly floral) form the body of the scent and stay longest in the room.
What remains. Cedarwood (dry and warm, like a wooden chest and pencil shavings); frankincense (resinous with a light lemony note, deep and still) sink in and linger after the diffuser is off.
Do not use for children under 6, during pregnancy, or if you have a health condition without asking a professional first. Never ingest essential oils; keep them out of reach of children and pets.
