The plant is famous for artemisinin, antimalarial (artemisinin does not steam-distill, it's in the leaves/extracts).

Artemisia annua was identified by Tu Youyou (China, Nobel Medicine 2015) as containing artemisinin, an antimalarial that has saved millions of lives.

Cultivated in China and Asia.
