Botanical source

Allium cepa is the most familiar culinary herb in the world. Cultivated everywhere for food.

The essential oil is distilled from bulbs in very small quantities, primarily used as a food flavoring, not in cosmetics.

Family Amaryllidaceae (or Liliaceae under older classification), same family as garlic, leek, and shallot.

Notes

Listed in for database completeness, but cosmetic applications are essentially nil.
