bouncing back after the cold

2 oils · Woody · Warm spice · code BL-2704

Star anise leads with a sweet, spicy warmth, while cypress follows with clean green needles, keeping the scent from getting heavy. An unusual two-oil pairing that is surprisingly balanced, good for the living room or home office on mornings when the cold is just easing. Open the window to let the sun in, then start the diffuser; star anise is strong, so the first time try 3 drops.

How it unfolds

As it settles. Star anise (sweet and warm, reminiscent of pho broth and Tet sweets); cypress (fresh, dry and clean like conifer wood) form the body of the scent and stay longest in the room.

What remains. With no woody or resin base note, this blend fades fairly quickly — switch it on again after 1–2 hours to keep the room scented.

Method

Diffuser
Star Anise 4 · Cypress 3 drops in 200–300 ml of water. Run for 30–60 minutes, then take a break.
10 ml roller
Star Anise 3 · Cypress 2 drops, then top up with a carrier oil (jojoba or sweet almond). Dab on wrists and the back of the neck.
50 ml room spray
Star Anise 17 · Cypress 13 drops + 1 teaspoon of food-grade alcohol, then top up with distilled water. Shake before spraying.

FAQ

How do I use bouncing back after the cold in a diffuser?
Add Star Anise 4 · Cypress 3 drops to 200–300 ml of water. In a room under 15 m², use 1–2 drops less; in a room over 25 m², add 1 more drop of the main oil.
What can I use instead of star anise?
Swap star anise for cinnamon or coriander — same warm spice family. The blend will shift a little: cinnamon is spicy-sweet, hot and warm.
When is the best time to use bouncing back after the cold?
Made for chilly days, cold rain, Tet (the Lunar New Year) and Christmas; use it in the living room or bedroom.
