The batch of cakes comes out of the oven evenly golden, not a single burnt spot. Four drops of sweet orange are cheerful, while frankincense, ylang-ylang and cedarwood, two drops each, lay down a base of resin, yellow flowers and dry wood. A baking kitchen or the living room as the cakes are set on the table are good spots. For a more bakery-like scent, swap the cedarwood for 1 drop of vanilla.

On opening. Sweet orange (ripe, sweet, cheerful and round) rises first, clearest in the first 10–15 minutes.
As it settles. Ylang ylang (rich, creamy, tropical and sweetly floral) forms the body of the scent and stays longest in the room.
What remains. Frankincense (resinous with a light lemony note, deep and still); cedarwood (dry and warm, like a wooden chest and pencil shavings) sink in and linger after the diffuser is off.
Do not use for children under 6, during pregnancy, or if you have a health condition without asking a professional first. Never ingest essential oils; keep them out of reach of children and pets.
