Eugenyl acetate is the acetate ester of eugenol, occurring substantially in clove and cinnamon leaf oils.

Skin. Applied undiluted to rabbit skin, it was moderately irritating. A 20 percent patch test on 25 volunteers produced neither irritation nor sensitization.

Oral. Acute oral LD50 in rats is 1.67 g/kg.

Subchronic. Rats fed 10,000 ppm in the diet for 19 weeks showed no observable effects.

Notes

Eugenyl acetate contributes a softer and sweeter clove note in Syzygium oils, tempering the sharper irritant character of free eugenol.
