softening up a little

4 oils · Citrus · Floral · code BL-0305

An apology, a hug, and your heart softens. Bergamot leads fresh and elegant, while ylang-ylang, geranium and jasmine, one drop each, scatter a soft layer of yellow flowers, green rose and white flowers. The scent is gentle and feminine, perfect for the bedroom or living room in the evening. This compact recipe suits a mini diffuser; for a big room, double everything.

How it unfolds

On opening. Bergamot (light citrus with a floral edge, Earl Grey style) rises first, clearest in the first 10–15 minutes.

As it settles. Ylang ylang (rich, creamy, tropical and sweetly floral); geranium (green and rosy, fresh and balanced); jasmine (white-floral, sweet, heady and alluring) form the body of the scent and stay longest in the room.

What remains. With no woody or resin base note, this blend fades fairly quickly — switch it on again after 1–2 hours to keep the room scented.

Safety

Photosensitizing

Bergamot can make skin sensitive to sunlight when applied topically — avoid sun and tanning beds for 12 hours after applying.

Do not use for children under 6, during pregnancy, or if you have a health condition without asking a professional first. Never ingest essential oils; keep them out of reach of children and pets.

FAQ

How do I use softening up a little in a diffuser?
Add Bergamot 2 · Ylang Ylang 1 · Geranium 1 · Jasmine 1 drops to 200–300 ml of water. In a room under 15 m², use 1–2 drops less; in a room over 25 m², add 1 more drop of the main oil.
What can I use instead of bergamot?
Swap bergamot for lemon or sweet orange — same citrus family. The blend will shift a little: lemon is fresh, bright and clean.
When is the best time to use softening up a little?
Use it at the end of the day, on weekends, while reading or right after a shower — whenever you want everything to slow down a beat.
