overtime, round two

2 oils · Herbal · Minty · code BL-1305

Working overtime for the second time calls for a slightly unusual scent. Fennel opens with a gently sweet, anise-like note that's very distinctive, then spearmint balances it with a soft coolness like fresh leaves. This two-oil blend suits the office when most of the lights are already off. If you're new to fennel, try 2 drops of fennel and 4 drops of spearmint first, and go back to the original ratio once you're used to it.

How it unfolds

On opening. Spearmint (sweet and cool, softer than peppermint, with a hint of chewing gum) rises first, clearest in the first 10–15 minutes.

As it settles. Fennel (sweet and herbal with a little anise) forms the body of the scent and stays longest in the room.

What remains. With no woody or resin base note, this blend fades fairly quickly — switch it on again after 1–2 hours to keep the room scented.

Method

Diffuser
Fennel 3 · Spearmint 3 drops in 200–300 ml of water. Run for 30–60 minutes, then take a break.
10 ml roller
Fennel 2 · Spearmint 2 drops, then top up with a carrier oil (jojoba or sweet almond). Dab on wrists and the back of the neck.
50 ml room spray
Fennel 15 · Spearmint 15 drops + 1 teaspoon of food-grade alcohol, then top up with distilled water. Shake before spraying.

FAQ

How do I use overtime, round two in a diffuser?
Add Fennel 3 · Spearmint 3 drops to 200–300 ml of water. In a room under 15 m², use 1–2 drops less; in a room over 25 m², add 1 more drop of the main oil.
What can I use instead of fennel?
Swap fennel for rosemary or eucalyptus — same herbal family. The blend will shift a little: rosemary is cool, green, herbal and invigorating.
When is the best time to use overtime, round two?
Best in the morning, early afternoon, or right after a nap; avoid using it close to bedtime.
