A small backyard cookout, some string lights, a few friends and a clean scent drifting around. Citronella and tea tree open equally, bold grass and sharp green, while eucalyptus and lemongrass make it cooler and fresher. Place two diffusers at either end of the table, away from the grill, and turn them on as you set out the food. For a big yard, double the recipe for each diffuser.

On opening. Citronella (strong, green and slightly lemony); tea tree (green, medicinal and clean); eucalyptus (strong, cool and wide open); lemongrass (fresh, green and clean) rise first, clearest in the first 10–15 minutes.
What remains. With no woody or resin base note, this blend fades fairly quickly — switch it on again after 1–2 hours to keep the room scented.
Lemongrass can irritate skin — dilute well and patch-test on a small area first.
Do not use for children under 6, during pregnancy, or if you have a health condition without asking a professional first. Never ingest essential oils; keep them out of reach of children and pets.
