History

Octanal is the eight-carbon aliphatic aldehyde. The trade name "aldehyde C-8" matches the real carbon count. It occurs in many citrus peels and is produced industrially by synthesis.

In perfumery

Used in traces to brighten citrus top notes and aldehydic accords. Often paired with decanal to rebuild the smell of orange peel.
