2-Nonanone is an aliphatic ketone occurring at low levels in rue and sugandha oils. It has also been identified as a component of normal human urine.

Skin. A 5 percent test on volunteers caused no irritation and no sensitization.

Acute toxicity. Both acute oral LD50 in rats and acute dermal LD50 in rabbits exceeded 5 g/kg.
